Kate
read Music and Drama at Hull
University, before serving her
apprenticeship as actor, musician and
composer in fringe and community theatre
companies including Theatre Kit,
Pentabus and the London
Bubble.
Composer
and Lyricist
Kate has written music and lyrics for ten
pantomimes for Salisbury Playhouse (all
now published by Weinbergers) and pantos
at Watford Palace, Liverpool Everyman and
the Belgrade, Coventry. Other show include
ALICE IN
WONDERLAND at Regent's Park, DOC FAUST
for Forest Forge, and three new family
musicals for the Theatre Royal,
Winchester, LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, SLEEPING
BEAUTY and PUSS IN BOOTS.
She has written three actor musician
musicals all premiered at the Theatre
Royal Margate – ALIS BABA, THE
SNOW QUEEN, and PINOCCHIO.
She has written three musicals for
children, DRAGON FIRE, WITCHWOOD and
RUN,
RABBIT, RUN, all of which have
been published and which are regularly
performed by schools around the country.
Television
Television includes composing
theme tunes and incidental music for two
HTV Wales comedy series, FFLAT HUW PUW
and SONANDANI, and presenting
and writing music for six series of LET'S
PRETEND. She wrote the music for
the recent series of Roald Dahl children's
stories for Penguin Audiobooks. She has
written the music for three series of GRANDPA IN MY
POCKET, the Bafta award-winning
live action children's show starring James
Bolam, currently airing on cbeebies.
For
S4C she wrote music for THE HA HA
HAIRIES, and most recently music for
several showS on the bogglesox youtube
children’s channel.
Director
Kate has directed DOC FAUST for
Forest Forge, PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES at
the New Vic, Stoke; BLUES IN THE
NIGHT at Birmingham Rep and
Oldham Coliseum, LITTLE SHOP
OF HORRORS at York Theatre Royal,
ALADDIN at
Liverpool Everyman, six pantomimes at
Salisbury Playhouse and the three family
musicals for Theatre Royal Winchester.

CAN’T BUY ME LOVE.
Kate was
Musical Director of the Olivier Award-winning
RETURN TO THE
FORBIDDEN PLANET in The West End, on
tour and in Australia, New York, South Africa
and Japan. Other West End includes FROM A JACK TO A
KING, CABARET, and THE THREEPENNY
OPERA at the Donmar.
Teacher
Kate has always combined her
professional work with teaching at drama
schools. Over the years she has taught at
RADA, LAMDA, Rose Bruford, Mountview, GSA,
Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, on the
degree course at Italia Conti, and at
Chichester University and Bournemouth and
Poole College. She has been to New York 3
times to MD the Conference of Drama Schools
showcase for American students who have been
studying in the UK.
She now lives in Salisbury where she still
writes for children’s television,
teaches voice, clarinet and piano, and runs
four community choirs.
